This is the story of Coco the Comet and how they came to call Coconino Community College home.

Coco's concept originated in 2008, but the current version was crafted in 2018. The Comets Cross Country team introduced the comet mascot in 2020, and by March 2024, CCC had an official costumed mascot.

Blazing fast and from high altitude, Coco, short for Coconino, has found their true, earthside home with the Comets and represents all CCC students, as well as athletics.

Flagstaff’s low-key social scene and food may be one of Coco’s greatest loves. Whether eating Dippin’ Dots, enjoying Astronaut Ice Cream or sampling fry bread, Coco has an appetite for it all. One of their favorite things to do is visit Lowell Observatory and view Pluto from afar. They also like to visit Meteor Crater and take trips to CCC’s Fourth Street Campus and the Page Center.

Go Coco, and Go Comets!

If you feel like you might have trouble spotting Coco, just remember the definition of a Comet is a celestial body that appears as a fuzzy head (teal and blue), a highly eccentric orbit (walking on earth), consists primarily of ice and dust, and often develops one or more long tails (gold cape) when near the sun (sunglasses, right?).
